Abstract
Diseases of the aorta are best classified according to their location: the etiology, pathophysiology, and therapy of these disorders depend in large part on whether they occur in the thoracic or abdominal portion. Although subject to numerous diseases, aortic atherosclerosis and its sequelae (aneurysm, stenosis, occlusion, dissection) account for the most important and prevalent clinical problems.
