A Comparative Study of Creep Resistance and Thermal Stability of Alloys “685” and “6242” in Air and in Vacuum

  • Chapter

Abstract

It is now well known that small silicon additions improve considerably creep resistance of titanium alloys. However, the influence of silicon on the thermal stability of these alloys is not clear. Some authors think that silicon could be the key factor responsible for instability of the alloys which contain this element (1) (2) (3). More recent studies (4) (5) have indicated that there is no appreciable hot embrittlement if the overall amount of the alloying additions is kept below certain limits.
