Abstract

For Mexico, as part of Meso-America and Ibero-America, there are two recent reference works (McQuown 1967a (= HMAI 5); Sebeok 1968 (= CTL 4)) with bibliographies of linguistic materials and studies which are virtually exhaustive through the mid-sixties. Therefore, it has seemed appropriate in this article to try to highlight the cumulative results of studies in this area rather than to duplicate bibliographical coverage. The sixth Bibliography of the Summer Institute of Linguistics (Wares 1968) is to be noted as well as recent bibliography in Bartholomew (1969b). There have also been some notable articles and monographs of very recent appearance.1
