Abstract

Several recent reviews1-5 summarize the physical properties of one-dimensional crystals based on either organic molecules or inorganic complexes. We focus here on magnetic properties and specifically exclude magnetic conductors, or one-dimensional “metals,” in which the approximation of localized moments fails. The crystals of interest are then magnetic insulators or semiconductors that contain linear arrays of localized moments, \({\vec S_n}\).
