Abstract
At present computers are used in nearly all areas of life — in commercial applications, in administration, in science and research, in technical environment for process control and information systems, etc. The number of computers installed is still increasing and this trend will continue. In the development process of dp-systems the adaption of the computer to the specific application, i.e. the realization of the software fulfilling the requirements of the application at hand, is the most intricate part. Software — and in particular application software — development is requiring more manpower because of increasing problems in development of application software for more complex systems; and the increasing amount of software being operational is requiring more manpower for maintenance.
