Abstract

The intense studies on phenomena of quantum beats have been started in optics in early sixties. These phenomena were predicted approximately at the same time and independently by Podgoretski in the USSR and by Kastler, Dodd and Series abroad. The first experiments in this area were carried out in the USSR by the author of this review and very soon by Corney and Series in England, by the group of Kastler in France and by many others /1/. The detailed theory of quantum beats has been worked out by Perel, Konstantinov, Diakonov, Cohen-Tannoudji, Nedelec and others.
