Abstract

The operation of a centrifugal pump may be affected by hydraulic or mechanical troubles. Hydraulic troubles may cause a pump to fail to deliver water altogether; or, the pump may deliver an insufficient capacity, develop insufficient pressure, lose its prime after starting, or consume excessive power. Mechanical difficulties may appear at the shaft seals and bearings, or produce vibration, noise, or overheating of the pump.
