Abstract

In the first edition of this chapter, several acute and chronic effects of selected hepatocarcinogens on the histology and ultrastructure of rodent liver cells were reviewed briefly. That review covered the period from the emergence of the application of ultrastructural studies to the problem of carcinogenesis in the early 1960s through publications available in 1972. The purpose of this chapter is to present several observations regarding effects of carcinogens on cell ultrastructure that have been published from 1972 through 1979 and to update our present knowledge in this area by relating the more recent publications to those discussed previously.
