Navigating in 3D using the “Flying Fish”

Abstract

We have developed a novel input device called the “Flying Fish” [2], which uses Electric Field (EF) sensing [10, 7] to interpret free-hand gestures as continuous controllers. Here we discuss some issues that arise when using this type of device for 3D navigation, particularly addressing the question of what it means for a gestural interface to feel “natural”.
