Abstract

Michael Attenborough is Principal Associate Director at the RSC. He began his career as Associate Director at the Mercury Theatre, Colchester, 1972–74, and went from there to the Leeds Playhouse, 1974–79. During his time there he directed new works by Willy Russell, Alan Bleasdale, James Robson and Arnold Wesker, as well as classics by Chekhov, Shaw and Shakespeare. He has been Associate Director at the Palace Theatre, Watford, 1980–84, and Artistic Director at the Hampstead Theatre, 1984–89. Since 1989 he has been with the RSC.
