Abstract
Using computer aided methods a new approach to Event Related Potentials has been developed. In one case a technique involving the Lee method of detection of periodic waveforms through cross correlation with a delta function repeated with frequency p, p = 1, 2,...,20 Hz has been used. In the cases in which no immediate sensory stimulus was present, a time referential has been introduced algorithmically at the maxima of periodic waveforms. This procedure, as a matter of fact, introduces postulated periodic waveforms as possible brain indicators of cognitive content bound processes. It is shown how the brain function correlated to cognitive processes may be understood if it is similar to the artificial system which was utilized in the acquisition and information processing system.
A further development was introduced using visual patterns formed by spatial sinusoids or positive and negative unit impulses with a Poisson distribution on a gray ground. It is shown how a detection and processing system may retrieve information concerning class formation in cross spectral comparisons.
A model is described based on the concept of harmonic oscillation in the brain to give an associative memory accessible to parallel distributed processing.
