About this book

Introduction

However I am absolutely shocked and disappointed to read "my" edited comments on the back cover. The first sentence of the version I supplied read: "In this unique book an account of the vision, preparation, then trials and tribulations involved in establishing the UK's first therapeutic community prison in decades forms the background to a very readable narrative of the accompanying research programme from inception to outcome." The person who edited this missed out the crucial words "in decades". This of course changes the meaning very profoundly, is clearly inaccurate, may cause offence to staff at HMP Grendon (the UK's actual first therapeutic community prison)  and makes me, and possibly the book, look completely ill- informed. I am copying this to friends at HMP Grendon so they don't wonder what I'm playing at or whether I've taken leave of my senses.
