This proceedings volume presents selected papers from the 7th International Conference on Emerging Databases: Technologies, Applications, and Theory (EDB 2017), which was held in Busan, Korea from 7 to 9 August, 2017. This conference series was launched by the Korean Institute of Information Scientists and Engineers (KIISE) Database Society of Korea as an annual forum for exploring novel technologies, applications, and research advances in the field of emerging databases. This forum has evolved into the premier international venue for researchers and practitioners to discuss current research issues, challenges, new technologies, and solutions.

About the editors

Wookey Lee received the B.S., M.S., and Ph.D. from Seoul National University, Korea, and the M.S.E. degree from Carnegie Mellon University, USA. He currently is a Professor in Inha University, Korea. He has served as PC member and chair for many conferences such as CIKM, IEEE DEST, DASFAA, ICDE, VLDB, etc, and also as executive committee of IEEE TCDE. He won the best paper awards in IEEE TCSC , ACM BigDas, KORMS and KIISE. He is the EIC of Journal of Information Technology and Architecture and the Big Data Service Journal, and an associate editor for WWW Journal. His research interests include Graph DB, Patent Information, Privacy, and Data Warehousing

 

Wonik Choi received his B.S., M.S., and Ph.D.in computer engineering from Seoul National University, Korea. He currently is a Professor in the department of communication and information at Inha University, Korea. He has served as PC member and chair for many conferences such as IEEE Bigd

ata, IEEE Cloud, IEEE IRI, DASFAA, EDB etc. He has published a number of peer-review journal papers including Data and Knowledge Engineering, Super Computing, IEICE TOC, etc. His research interests include Spatio-temporal databases, Mobile computing, GIS/LBS, and Big Data Analytics.

 

Sungwon Jung received the BS degree in computer science from Sogang Univeristy, Seoul, Korea in 1988.  He received the MS and PhD degrees in computer science from Michigan State University, East Lansing, Michigan, in 1990 and 1995, respectively. He worked as a senior research engineer at National Information Society Agency from 1997 till 2000.  He joined the department of computer science and engineering  at Sogang Univ. as an assistant professor in 2000. Currently, he is a professor in the Computer Science Department at Sogang University. His research interests includes spatial databases, data mini

ng, and mobile databases.He has published a number of peer-review journal papers including IEEE TKDE, Data and Knowledge Engineering, Journal of Systems and Software. He has worked as a referee of many journal papers of IEEE and Elsevier publishers.  

 

Min Song is the Underwood Distinguished Professor in the Department of Library and Information Science and the director of Text and Social Media Mining Lab at Yonsei University. He has published more than 200 international conference and journal papers. Min has research interests in Biomedical Text Mining, Social Media Data Mining, and Big Data Analytics. Prior to Yonsei, Min was the tenured Associate Professor of Information Systems Department at New Jersey Institute of technology. He received his PhD in Information Systems from Drexel University, an MS from Indiana University and a BA from Yonsei University in Korea. He is an editorial board member of Scientometrics and Journal

of Informetrics, and he also serves as an associate editor of Frontiers in Research Metrics and Analytics.
