De kernangst van mensen met een sociale-angststoornis is de angst dat anderen hen negatief evalueren. Zo zijn ze bang dat anderen hen dom, raar, zwak, minder, oninteressant of arrogant vinden. ‘Cognitieve therapie bij sociale angst’ is een protocol voor de behandeling van sociale-angststoornis en richt zich primair op de automatische gedachten over de negatieve evaluatie door anderen. Uitgangspunt is dat verandering in deze gedachten ook zijn uitwerking hebben op het dieper liggende beeld dat cliënten van zichzelf hebben. ‘Cognitieve therapie bij sociale angst’ is onderdeel van de reeks Protocollen voor de GGZ. Bij deze titel is tevens het werkboek voor cliënten te bestellen: ‘Minder angstig in sociale situaties’.Elk deel in de reeks geeft een sessiegewijze omschrijving van de behandeling van een specifieke psychische aandoening weer en bevat een dvd met beelden van therapiesessies. De theorie is beknopt en berust op wetenschappelijke evidentie. Protocollen voor de GGZ is bedoeld voor psychologen, psychotherapeuten, psychiaters en andere hulpverleners.
