Mit der „Ostpolitik“ schrieb Willy Brandt Geschichte. Aber da war mehr. Die Einigung Europas war ihm ebenso wichtig. Das Bündnis mit den USA bildete die Grundlage. Als Präsident der Sozialistischen Internationale fand er neue Partner außerhalb Europas. An der Spitze der Nord-Süd-Kommission legte Brandt ein Programm zur Überwindung von Hunger und Elend auf der Welt vor. Über allem standen ihm die Sicherung des Friedens und Landgewinn für die Freiheit. Dieses Buch stellt erstmals Brandts Außenpolitik und seine internationalen Aktivitäten in ihrer ganzen Breite dar, vom Exil bis über 1989/90 hinaus.
