Unternehmen, die am europäischen System zum Umweltmanagement und der Umweltbetriebsprüfung teilnehmen, sind gemäß der EG-Öko-Audit-Verordnung verpflichtet, Öffentlichkeitsarbeit zu betreiben. Insbesondere soll regelmäßig eine sogenannte Umwelterklärung erstellt werden, womit sich die Öffentlichkeit sowohl über die Umweltprobleme als auch über das Umweltmanagement an dem betreffenden Betriebsstandort informieren kann. Das vorliegende Buch hat zum Ziel beiden - nämlich Unternehmen und Öffentlichkeit - die Umwelterklärung als ein neues Instrument der Umweltkommunikation vorzustellen.
