About this book

Increasing numbers of women live outside conventional marriage. They form a diverse group which includes widows and divorcees, those who cohabit and even those whose husbands are away from home. This book explores the experiences of women who are marginal to marriage, their sources of social and economic support, their domestic routines and their familial relationships. It also examines the implications of those trends for the conceptualisation and construction of family life.
