Introduction

Federico Garcia Lorca is Spain's foremost dramatist of the twentieth century. In this study consideration is given to his work for the stage including his historical dramas. The rural tragedies of Blood Wedding and Yerma and his experiments in dramatic form: Thus Let Five Years Pass and The Public. The conclusion describes the fate of Lorca's work in Francoist Spain and its place in European drama.
