Abstract

Psoriasis is a highly variable disease that is difficult to treat. It is characterised by periodic exacerbations and remissions and affects 1-3% of the population worldwide. There are a number of abnormalities in the skin of patients with psoriasis and increasing evidence points to an underlying T lymphocyte-mediated autoimmune process. Several innovative therapies undergoing development for use in this condition were discussed at the 19th World Congress of Dermatology [ Sydney, Australia; June 1997 ].
