New ideas for vaccines against tuberculosis

Four strategies are under investigation as possible ways of developing more immunogenic vaccines for protection against Mycobacterium tuberculosis infection. These vaccines are greatly needed as the incidence of tuberculosis remains at a high level in both developed and developing countries. Some of the new approaches involved in tuberculosis vaccine development were discussed at the 3rd European Conference on Vaccinology [ Berlin, Germany; October 1996 ].
