Steroid-like agents under investigation for breast cancer prevention

Casting aside claims that giving prophylactic treatment to ‘healthy’ women is too risky, Dr Michael B Sporn from the US National Cancer Institute advocated breast cancer prevention as the ‘ultimate goal’ of current research. Speaking at the 6th European Organisation for the Research and Treatment of Cancer (EORTC) Breast Cancer Working Conference [ Amsterdam, the Netherlands; September 1994 ], he also presented data on several steroid-like agents that could prove effective in this role.
