Abstract
Rotavirus infections cause debilitating and potentially fatal acute diarrhoeal diseases in animals and man, but no effective vaccine exists. However, several R&D approaches are continuing, including the development of a vaccine for broader antigenic coverage, inactivated and subunit vaccines, and genetic manipulation of attenuated rotavirus strains. Progress was discussed at the 9th Congress of Virology held in Glasgow, UK, earlier this month.
