Background

The etiology of depression and also of other psychotic disorders has always been assessed in biological, psychological and cultural aspects.

Major symptoms of this disorder include an insecurity feeling, helplessness and low self-esteem. We notice that depressive patients, especially those who do not have any biological etiology, have departed from creator (God) in degrees, and have unrealistic religious beliefs.

Materials and methods

This research is a descriptive-correlational study with the goal of detecting relation ships between religiosity and depression in nursing students of Ardabil University in Iran. All of the nursing students were chosen for sampling. The degree of religiosity and depression were determined by questionnaires.

Results

The findings of this study showed that there is a significant relationship between religiosity and depression (p < 0.05).
