Properties of Rolled Plate with Strength Gradient across Thickness

Abstract

This article analyzes the mechanical properties of rolled plates made of shipbuilding steel of grade A32 with strength gradient across thickness. The microstructure of sheet across thickness varies from ferrite–bainite to ferrite–pearlite pattern. This leads to formation of a steel strength gradient. It has been demonstrated that the ratio of the strength gradient directions influences the applied force upon static bending and bullet resistance.
