Physico-chemical aspects of protection of metals by organic corrosion inhibitors

Investigations of organic corrosion inhibitors carried out under my guidance at the Frumkin Institute of Physical Chemistry and Electrochemistry are briefly overviewed. Achievements in synthesis of new generation of volatile metal corrosion inhibitors are examined. The possibility of passivating low-carbon steel in aqueous solutions by adsorption of organic compounds protecting it from corrosion and oxidation is demonstrated. It is shown that the stability of passivating state of metals was increased by organic inhibitors and their mixtures, the components of which enhanced the protecting action of each other.
