Abstract

The syndrome of psychological dependence on psychoactive substances (SPD) is the most important element in the pathogenesis of the addictive diseases (narcoticism and alcoholism). Studies of this syndrome are possible on the basis of the achievements of a number of sciences including neurobiology, neurochemistry, physiology, and psychology. In recent years, changes in signal transduction systems occurring during the chronic action of psychoactive substances have been investigated in detail. It is believed that such disorders are involved in the development of the SPD. These problems are discussed in connection with the prophylaxis and treatment of addictive diseases.
