International experience in the organization of science, with special reference to the USA

The organization of academic science in the United States and its relationship with the economy and private business are analyzed. The extent to which organizational measures taken and methods used are adequate to the actual trends of the evolution of world science is examined. It is suggested that some international experience can be borrowed for the benefit of reform of Russian science.
