Abstract

A short review of some experiments carried out at the Baksan Neutrino Observatory during the entire time of its existence is given. The main emphasis is on the results of the very first experiments conducted at Baksan and on those that were the world-best, at least for a short period of time (or still remain so).

Notes

  1. This institute had started construction works of the Baksan Neutrino Observatory (BNO) even before the Institute for Nuclear Research was founded in 1971. Being transferred there the FIAN Neutrino Laboratory (headed by G.T. Zatsepin) was transformed into the Department of High-Energy Leptons and Neutrino Astrophysics. A.E. Chudakov became a head of the High-Energy Leptons Laboratory in this department.

  2. The first solar neutrino experiment by R. Davis was also made in an existing mine. Of course, because of the large scale of the experimental setup, the mine space had to be enlarged.
