Introducing R. Savio

Roberto Savio is an Italian–Argentine award-winning journalist and long-time commentator on public affairs. In 1964, he was one of the co-founders of the Inter Press Service (IPS) news agency which was, and still remains, the largest news-gathering organization dedicated to news from the Global South. In his distinguished career, he has helped found numerous other media organizations around the world and has retained a keen focus on promoting a culture of dialogue, at both the citizen and institutional levels.

He has received several awards from different countries around the world in recognition of both his journalistic work and efforts to build community through media. Mr. Savio is today President Emeritus of IPS and the publisher of Other News, an online news service dedicated to publishing ‘information that markets eliminate’. Mr. Savio is also Secretary General Emeritus of SID.
