Abstract
A preliminary taxonomic review of cassava green spider mites, Mononychellus spp., from their South American topotype and from several African countries indicates that the dorsal central body setae is not a reliable and stable diagnostic character as it was found to widely vary. The taxonomie implication of this is discussed.

Une étude taxonomique préliminaire des acariens (vertes) du manioc, Mononychellus, à partir de leur prototype de l’Amerique Latine et de plusieurs autres pays Africains, indique que les cerques de la partie centrale dorsale n’est pas un trait de diagnostic viable et stable—car a été prouvé qu’ils changeaient considérablement. L’implication taxonomique de ce cas est discuté.
