Life Tables and Energetics of Earias vittella (Fab.) (Noctuidae: Lepidoptera) Reared on Three Different Hosts

Life tables of Earias vittella reared on Abelmoschus esculentus L., (okra) Gossypium hirsutum L., (cotton) and Abutilon indicum G. Den. in the laboratory at 27 ± 1°C were constructed. The pest population increased at the rate of 0.124, 0.106 and 0.082 females/female/day, respectively on these seeds. A significant correlation between fecundity and body weight of females raised on these seeds was obtained. The shorter generation time and higher intrinsic rate of population increase on okra seeds shortened the population doubling time of E. vittella to S.67 days, while the doubling time was 6.64 or 9.00 days on cotton or A. indicum seeds. In a larval period of 16–17 days E. vittella consumed okra, cotton and A. indicum seeds at the rate of 463.6, 493.3 and 382.8 J/g/day. E. vittella fed on okra displayed the highest efficiencies of assimilation (74%), gross (49%) and net production (66%). The efficiencies were comparatively low for the insects fed on A. indicum seeds.

Les tableaux de vie de Earias vittella élève sur Abelmoschus esculentus L., Gossypium hirsutum L., et Abutilon indicum G. Den. dans la laboratoire 27 ± 1°C étaient préparés. La population des (pestes) insectes nuisibles augmentait a raison de 0,124, 0,106 et 0,082 femelles/ femelle/jour, respectivement sur ces graines. Une correlation considérable entre fécondité et le poids du corps (de la masse) des femelles élevées sur ces graines étaient obtenue. Le plus court temps de génération et la plus grande proportion intrinsique de la (augmentation) croissance de la population sur les graines d’okra a raccourci le temps du doublement de la population de E. vittella à 5.67 jours comparé à 6,64 ou 9,00 jours sur lesgraines du coton ou de l’A. indicum. Dans une période larvaire de 16–17 jours E. vittella (out) a consommé des graines du okra, du coton et de l’A. indicum, a raison de 463,6; 493,3 et 382,8 J/g/jour. E. vittella nourri du okra, (out) a montré les plus grandes efficacités de l’assimilation (74%) grosse (49%) et production nette (66%). Les efficacités étaient comparativement bass’es pour les insectes nourris sur les graines de A. indicum.
