Abstract
In recent years, many psychologists have entered the field of social care. However, it can be observed that improvements in working conditions, employment contracts, professional support, and remuneration are necessary for the service to function satisfactorily. This study investigated the perceptions of five professors regarding the performance of psychologists and their contribution to the National Social Care System (Sistema Único de Assistência Social – SUAS), working conditions, and academic background. For data analysis, the software IRAMUTEQ (Interface de R pour les Analyses Multidimensionnelles de Textes et de Questionnaires) was used and the results revealed that the work of the psychologist should be focused on the community, identifying the network of emotional relationships of users. The professional must know the areas and the community, and the work must be carried out in a multidisciplinary way, with no exclusive role of psychology in this context. The interlocutors affirmed that the basis of the academic formation is insufficient to equip the professionals to act in the context of the SUAS. It is necessary to review the curriculum basis and invest in training that covers social policies. The fragility and precariousness of employment relationships are obstacles to a job with good results in the medium and long term. In addition, political awareness is needed to organize and claim better working conditions.
