Abstract

MgO-C and MgO-Al2O3-C bricks (MAC) have been used in steel ladles for over 20 years. Corrosion tests have been performed under laboratory conditions as well as in a ladle for six months in an integrated steel shop. The addition of CaO-MgO-Al2O3 aggregates increases the corrosion resistance of MgO-C and promotes the formation of a slag coating on top of a carburised zone at the hot face. The slag coating formation as well as the dissolution of MgO grains have been investigated.
