Abstract

The clinical course of oral mucosal inflammatory and ulcerative diseases can range from being self-limiting to potentially life threatening. Effective management of these diseases is essential to improve overall health and quality of life. Pharmacologic therapy plays an important role in the efficient treatment of oral mucosal inflammatory and ulcerative diseases. Therapeutic choices should be patient centered and evidenced based on the diagnosis of the disorder. Treatment regimens depend on the severity and extent of the oral mucosal involvement. Clinician should select the appropriate treatment, weighing the risks and benefits of different treatment approaches. Antimicrobial agents and immunosuppressive drugs such as corticosteroid are the two major classes of drugs used in the management of oral ulcerative stomatitis. These drugs should not be used empirically without obtaining an accurate diagnosis.
