Abstract
Streblospio gynobranchiata is an alien species in the Caspian Sea and widely spread over large extensions of the Iranian Southern coast. In the present study, we examined the distribution patterns of this species in the Gorgan Bay, Caspian Sea. Sampling was carried out during four seasons and the relation between S. gynobranchiata abundance with environmental parameters was investigated. Abundance of S. gynobranchiata had no significant differences between spring, summer and autumn (p > 0.05). Based on Distance-based Linear Model analysis, those affecting factors on S. gynobranchiata abundance were temperature in winter, organic matter in spring, depth and salinity in summer and depth in autumn at the Gorgan Bay which indicates the controlling role of various environmental parameters on S. gynobranchiata abundance at different seasons. There were negative and significant correlations between S. gynobranchiata and diversity indices (p < 0.05). Our results suggest that S. gynobranchiata is mainly responsible factor for differences in community structure of the studied areas.
