Optimized Cruise Liner Operation with Expert System Simulation and Condition Monitoring

The systems on ships are getting more complex and the number of components are increasing. for an optimized operation it is essential that the systems have to interact with each other, so there is a high need for a deep knowledge about the behavior of each component and the total system. For this purpose AVL has developed a combined approach of real-time system simulation and condition monitoring. This enables the setup of a real-time simulation model of the complete vessel systems — including hull and propulsion — for evaluating operation optimization potentials and investigate the impact of changing operational boundaries or failures as well as new operation strategies.
