Mercedes-AMG | G-Class Top Model with New V8 Engine
The makeover of the current top version of the Mercedes-Benz G-Class - the AMG G 63 - includes the adding of a new eight-cylinder engine. The 5.5-l V8 biturbo gasoline engine is being replaced by a modified version of the 4.0-l V8 with hot V, as already known from the AMG versions of the C- and E-Classes. The twin exhaust turbochargers are no longer positioned on the outside of the cylinder banks, but between them in the cylinder V, instead. According to AMG, benefits include more compact dimensions, more spontaneous response characteristics of the twin-scroll turbochargers and lower exhaust emissions thanks to improved inflow to the catalytic converters located next to the engine. Additional features include spray-guided direct injection with Piezo injectors, a solid aluminum crankcase, four-valve technology with camshaft timing as well as start-stop and coasting functions.
