Digitalization and electrification also have an impact on automotive lighting, both on the vehicle interior and the external lighting. In this article, Hella explains the changes to headlamps brought about by the digitalization trend and outlines the expected benefits for drivers.

The Road to High-Resolution Headlamp Systems

The aim of headlamp development is to achieve optimal illumination, while simultaneously minimizing self-glare and glare for other road users. This approach requires light to be emitted from the headlamp with high spatial resolution. There are spatial angles in which a high luminous flux must be transmitted (for good illumination), and other spatial angles in which the luminous flux should be kept at a low level (to prevent glare).
