Determining the characteristics of lateral tyre force behaviour for transient driving manoeuvres

A research cooperation project between Dresden University of Technology and Audi is elaborating measuring procedures for the analysis and characterisation of the stationary and transient lateral tyre force behaviour. This is to allow the rapid, precise and low-wear determination of the basic characteristic curves of individual tyres.


The characteristics of tyres have a significant effect on motor vehicle dynamics since all of the forces keeping the vehicle on its predetermined course are transferred via the contact between the tyre and the road surface. This influence is also reflected in the simulation of vehicle dynamics, in which the tyre models used are capable of reproducing the characteristics of the tyre with the highest possible accuracy.
