Wie die Daten des deutschen Krebsregisters gezeigt haben, kann die Vorsorgekoloskopie die Darmkrebsmortalität senken. Die Koloskopie erfordert aber immer eine effektive Darmreinigung, da eine unzureichende Vorbereitung zu einer reduzierten Adenomdetektion, zu verlängerter Untersuchungszeit, zu mehr Komplikationen oder zu Wiederholungsuntersuchungen führt.
