Manche Patienten weisen typische allergische Symptome der Nasenschleimhaut auf, die aber keine abnormen Ergebnisse bei den üblichen spezifischen Serum-IgE-Werten oder beim Prick-Test haben. Es wird daraus geschlussfolgert, dass es vermutlich eine lokale allergische Rhinitis gebe, bei der IgE-Antikörper nur vor Ort und nicht generell vorliegen.
