We discovered an error in Eq. (12) (p. 1621). The correct equation should read as follows:

$$ {\overline{e}}_y={e}_y+\frac{a_y}{n}\left({e}_{y+1}-{e}_y\right). $$

This equation was shown only for comparison, for readers who were familiar with life tables but not matrix notation. It was not used in any calculations or results and is not necessary to follow the article’s analysis.
