Wie lässt sich Karies am besten voraussagen?

Karies ist eine Erkrankung der Zahnhartsubstanzen mit unterschiedlichen Symptomen. Zudem kommt Karies an verschiedenen Zahnflächen vor und kann unterschiedliche Aktivitätslevel aufweisen, die von einem inaktiven Stadium (arretierte Kariesläsion) bis zu einer rasch fortschreitenden, aktiven Erkrankung reichen. Eine zuverlässige Diagnose ist für die therapeutischen überlegungen unabdingbar. Dabei stellt sich die Frage, welche diagnostischen Hilfsmittel zur Verfügung stehen und wie genau diese in der Lage sind, die Kariesausdehnung und -progression zu beurteilen. Bezüglich der koronalen Karies sind einige wichtigen Studien der vergangenen Jahre hier zusammengestellt.
