Drie recent verschenen Cochrane-reviews leiden tot de conclusie dat we eigenlijk niet weten hoe effectief pijnmedicatie is bij patiënten met kanker. De onderbouwing van de WHO-pijnladder is meer gebaseerd op theorie, fysiologie en dagelijkse praktijk dan op wetenschappelijk onderzoek.
