Abstract
Urosepsis is a severe, and sometimes fatal, infection starting in the urinary tract leading to systemic infection and complicated by patient immune and inflammatory responses. The practicing urologist should recognize the multiple risk factors that may increase the risk of urosepsis and follow early goal-directed therapy. In many cases, the urologist is involved to alleviate the source of infection and in a team-based approach, can alter patient outcome. Urosepsis after common urological procedures is often preventable with the use of antimicrobial prophylaxis.
