Fundamentals of Glass Science and Technology

Held in conjunction with the 10th Pacific Rim Conference on Ceramic and Glass Technology (PACRIM 10), this course covers basic glass science and technology in order to broaden or improve one’s foundation in the understanding of glass as a material of choice. This one and a half day course covers the topics of glass science (commercial glass families, glassy state, nucleation and crystallization, phase separation, glass structure); glass technology, batch calculations; glass melting and forming; glass properties and engineering principles; and elementary fracture analysis.
