Abstract
The failure analysis of a 32.5 MW first-stage gas turbine nozzle made of cobalt-base X45 superalloy is presented. It was found that nozzle airfoil failed as a result of exposure to high temperatures. The overheating experienced by the airfoil damaged the impingement cooling system and degraded the microstructure. Also, processing during repair played an important role in the failure of the nozzle.
