Failure Analysis of a Diesel Engine Gear-Train Used in a Truck

The malfunction took place on a diesel engine gear-train used in a truck when performing a trial run. It was found that two gear-shafts fractured and a bolt fixing one of the gear-shafts bent. Most evidence indicates that loosening of a fixing bolt in operation of the gear-train is responsible for the failure of the gear-train, which induced two gear-shafts fractured successively.
