Tim Sprod: Discussions in Science: Promoting Conceptual Understanding in the Middle School Years

Tim Sprod is an Honorary Associate in the School of Philosophy at the University of Tasmania. He has taught science and philosophy at all levels from primary school to university in Australia, Papua New Guinea, the Bahamas and the United Kingdom. He studied philosophy and graduated in geology from the University of Tasmania and took higher degrees in education (Oxford University) and a PhD degree in philosophy (University of Tasmania). He is past secretary of the International Council for Philosophical Inquiry with Children, and past chair of the Federation of Australasian Philosophy in Schools Associations.
Sprod’s intellectual debts are obvious in the book’s Dedication which is to: Ann Margaret Sharp, Matthew Lipman and Gareth Matthews all of whom were leading figures in the Philosophy for Children movement and who passed away in the year before the book’s publication.
