1H NMR spectroscopic investigation of the kinetics of the equilibrium between Z and E isomers

Abstract

A 1H NMR spectroscopic investigation of the kinetics of the interchange process in the equilibrium between the Z and E isomers of a stable phosphorus ylide containing a 2-benzoxazolinone group has been undertaken. Activation data (k −1, k 1, k total, Ea 1, Ea −1, Ea total, ΔS #, ΔH #, and ΔG #) and thermodynamic data (K e, ΔH°, ΔG°, and ΔS°) for the forward and reverse steps of the opposing reaction were obtained experimentally.
